Maree Turner - Portrait Photographer

Maree Turner is a Wedding and Portrait Photographer. She's asked me to run a few of her images through Lightroom/Photoshop. Things are definately easier when you have fantastic images to deal with first. Maree's work is a joy to play with. Here are a few images I've tweeked to make the images pop.

Here are Maree's contact details:

So from the start. I imported all images into Lightroom and applied all metadata and other image info needed to keep things in order. I was dealing with 115 images so I picked one image at the start and then corrected it's white balance. I then selected the rest of the images and synced the white balance.

This is where Lightroom comes into its own. If you have a number of images all shot in the same colour temperature environment, you can correct the white balance of all images in no time by using Lightrooms Sync function.

The images you see above did cause me one problem. Loved the subject, but didn't care much for the background. After a bit of thinking I decided to over underexpose the background a little which would allow for all the attention to fall on the subject. So how was this done?

Step one is to expose for the subject and export to Photoshop. Step two, go back to the original image, but this time under expose the background. Now export to Photoshop. Now I have two images in Photoshop. Hold the shift key and drag one image over the other. By holding down the shift key the images will line up pixel for pixel. Now create a mask on the top layer and paint in the correctly exposed baby into the image.

Sharpening is the next thing. Flatten the image and have a look at how you want to handle the sharpening process. I decided to keep the eyes sharp and smooth out the skin. I also had a few specular highlights in the corner of the baby's right eye, on the tongue and just above the right nostral that needed to be diffused. The highlights are still present, it's just that they are now diffuse so attention is not drawn to those part of the image.
